The Shawnee Library System is a regional, multitype library system serving school, public, special, and academic libraries. The primary source of funding is through the office of the Illinois Secretary of State. Shawnee's service area covers 12,719 square miles in 32 counties in southern Illinois with a population base of 645,365. Shawnee's union catalog which includes holdings from 95 member libraries. The primary role of the Shawnee Library System staff is to facilitate and enhance that spirit of cooperation. Mission Statement The Shawnee Library System leads member libraries and develops partnerships to create and sustain collaborative and innovative services necessary to serve the people of southern Illinois. Vision Statement We envision a future in which all people of southern Illinois enjoy immediate and continuously expanding access to excellent library services and resources.
