Leona Stanford Vollintine Donates to Library's Endowment Fund
Former Flora resident, Leona Stanford Vollintine, recently donated $50,000 to the Flora Public Library Endowment Fund through a bequest in her will. The donation was made in loving memory of her father and mother, Charles Orren Stanford & Mary Frances (Thomas) Stanford, and her grandparents, George Eldrege Thomas & Florence Virginia (Christy) Thomas. Becky Stocke, Marilyn S. Cain and Charles O. Stanford III, nieces and nephews of Mrs. Vollintine, made the presentation to Donna Corry, Library Director.
The Flora Public Library Endowment Fund was established in 2003 to provide a permanent source of additional financial resources for the library. Donations to the endowment will not be spent unless the donor stipulates otherwise. Interest from the fund will be used to perpetually enhance and sustain an appropriate level of library services and resources; including materials, equipment, technology and programming. A gift to the Flora Public Library Endowment Fund is a vital investment in library services for future generations.
Mrs. Vollintine passed away in October 2008 at the age of 107. She lived in Flora during her youth and graduated from (Flora) Harter-Stanford Township High School in 1919. She resided in Taylorville, IL for some time but lived in Boulder, CO at the time of her death. Corry stated, “Mrs. Vollintine’s generosity is greatly appreciated. Her legacy will live on through the lives that are enriched by her gift.”
