Peggy Harris, author of the book “Leaving Home,” will be at Flora Public Library on Saturday, February 6, at 2:00 for a book signing.  The book is a paperback and will be available for $8.00.

Peggy began writing seventeen years ago while taking a Creative Writing class.  Her book was originally written as a class assignment.  It is the story of a young girl, Katie, who is unhappy about having to move to a new home in another state.  It details the problems Katie encounters in her new environment until she begins to change her attitude.  The instructor of Peggy’s writing class told her that she should publish the story; but, it wasn’t until she received encouragement from Sandra Brandon, also a local children’s author, that she attempted to have it published.

The author resides in Sailor Springs with her husband, Fred, who is a farmer.  She has four children, two boys and two girls, and four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.  Peggy is an Early Childhood teacher in the North Clay School District.  Her book, “Leaving Home”, was inspired by childhood memories of living in Chicago and having to move when her whole neighborhood was destroyed so the Dan Ryan Expressway could be built.  “We moved to our new home when I was in the middle of eighth grade and it was a struggle to make new friends,” she said.  “I learned a valuable life lesson that year.  I learned that when I began reaching out to others in friendship and caring, it was reciprocated.”

The book is also available at Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com.  For more information, contact the library at (618) 662-6553.
