Gates Internet & Workstations Policy

MULTI-MEDIA WORKSTATION POLICY
GATES WORKSTATIONS
1. Users must have a valid library card from Flora Public Library or a Computer Pass. When signing up to use the workstations, patrons must present their library card or Computer Pass.
2. Anyone who does not wish to obtain a library card may purchase a one-week Computer Pass. Passes cost $2.00 and expire at closing time on the seventh day. Passes may be purchased in multiples of up to four weeks. This pass is for Gates/Internet workstation use only and does not include circulation, interlibrary loan or any other service contingent upon having a valid library card. Requirements for the Computer Pass are outlined in the Circulation Policy.
3. To obtain a Computer Pass, user must fill out an Acceptable Use Agreement and a Computer Pass Application.
4. Anyone using any of the library’s workstations, except the two Public Access Catalog (PAC) computers, must sign in at the circulation desk and sign out when finished. Failure to sign out may result in loss of workstation privileges.
5. Use of any workstation is limited to 30 minute sessions. If no one is waiting to use the computer, patron may sign up for another 30 minutes. Maximum use per patron is two hours per day
6. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of library staff.
7. Use of library workstations will be a first come, first served basis.
8. Users will not attempt to modify, alter, or damage software or equipment.
9. Users may use their own software programs or personal diskettes on any library workstations.
10. Files may not be saved on hard drives. If patrons wish to save files, diskettes will be available at the Circulation Desk for a nominal fee.
11. Files may be printed out for a nominal fee per page. See Fee Schedule for specific amounts.
12. Patrons who are under 14 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult, preferably a parent, guardian or grandparent, and have an Acceptable Use Agreement signed by a parent or guardian, to use the Gates computers. Patrons under 14 may use the Gates computers without an adult only if they are signed into the Juvenile user profile which does not include Internet access. The Juvenile user profile has many educational games.
(NOTE TO PARENTS: Please be advised that a juvenile patron that turns 14 no longer has to have an adult present to use the library’s Internet. After turning 14, a juvenile will be allowed to use the Internet alone. Any type of Internet usage restriction to the contrary will be between parent and juvenile.)
13. Users must be able to demonstrate adequate computer ability. Library staff may provide general assistance to patrons in using electronic information as time and staff knowledge permits. However, staff cannot provide in-depth training concerning Internet or personal computer use.
